There’s been plenty of discussion on these pages – and others – about the nature of official Olympic advertising… and some of the unofficial stuff too.
Companies like Adidas, Samsung and McDonald’s have paid a fortune to be associated with the London Games – and have invested serious cash in outdoor all over London.
But where does that leave unaffiliated businesses keen to associate themselves with London 2012…but at pains, obviously, to comply with Locog’s strict advertising rules? In the case of Strongbow (and Ocean Outdoor) it’s gold medals all round for a simple, unbranded and timely ad, blending the cider brand’s archery insignia with Usain Bolt’s sprinter’s trademark pose:
The many joys of digital, eh? I’ll raise a pint to that.
